Vanessa Graber - "Modelling superfluid neutron stars - a problem of lengthscales"
The main challenge of incorporating the presence of quantum condensates into theoretical models of neutron stars is the huge range of lengthscales involved -- while quantum mechanical features are typically important on microscopic lengthscales of order 100fm, neutron stars are macroscopic objects on the order of 10km. I will talk about how we try to bridge a gap between these 17 orders of magnitude.
David Purnell - "Melting ice sheets, sea level change and GNSS-Reflections"
Sea level measurements near a melting ice sheet may be used to constrain the rate at which ice is melting, but very few sea level measurements currently exist in such regions. In this talk, I will introduce a new method for monitoring sea level in polar regions: GNSS-Reflections.
